How Amazon launches new products by working backwards

While starting to brainstorm a new product a few weeks ago, I unearthed two of my favorite articles about product development from Amazon employees. Amazon has a unique process for developing new features – they work backwards. They write a press release before moving a pixel or writing a line of code, and always think from the customer’s perspective back to the product. If they can’t write a compelling release, they re-evaluate the strategy and the need for the product.

Check out a Quora thread on this process from Ian McAllister, Unusual Projects Lead at Amazon.
