I’ve been following Music Hack Days since their inception. I’d really like to take part in one, but between you and I, the idea of an all nighter sounds more like a punishment than a fun way to spend a weekend. Instead of building an app in 24 hours straight, I chose a problem I’ve been wanting to solve for a few months and decided to build it over the course of a few weeks with a 24 cap on time for research, ux, design and build. This is my first experiment.
What Your Friends Like is an application that lets you search for things your friends like on Facebook. We will scan your friends and your news feed to find out as much information about a topic as possible and return the results to you.
We also give you context by highlighting the person you are in a relationship with, or friends who live in the same city as you. You can easily view a friend’s profile, post to their wall, or send them a Facebook message.
This project was a good escuse for me to dig deep into the Facebook APIs, as well as local storage in HTML5 browsers. While version 1 was built in 24 hours I’ve put bits of time in here and there updating APIs, the process for sending info to the database, and making sure my javascript validated through JSLint.
