Skimmer – Social Network Aggregator

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

Skimmer is a really slick new app by Fallon built on the Adobe AIR Platform. It allows users to interact with Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Flickr and Blogger all from within one app. See a view of all of you and your friend’s activities across all of these networks. There are still a few bugs here and there (windows that don’t close and a buggy Facebook sign up) but once you get up an running it’s a pretty amazing little application.

Fanbase Included in list of top 200 Music Startups

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Fanbase has been included as one of the top 200 Music Startups for 2008. It’s amazing to be recognized not only as a record label, but to be in the company of so many amazing technology companies. It makes me proud to be a part of a group that can cross the line between the two. More exciting Fanbase news to come in 2009.

Connecting Fans with Bands

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

I was invited by Adobe to talk at their 2008 Max designer/developer conference as part of a new track of sessions geared towards business and strategy. My presentation was entitled “Connecting Fans with Bands” and is now available on Adobe TV. The video has the audio from the presentation overlaid on top of my Powerpoint slides. The presentation discussed all the ways we are using Adobe technology to promote our artists and bring them closer to their fans than has ever been possible before. I talk specifically about our multi-screen Fanbase platform, games, and our strategy for artist’s websites.

Adobe MAX 2008

Monday, November 24th, 2008

I’ve had a few days to recoup from lack of sleep after Adobe’s MAX 2008 conference and wanted to recap the amazing experience I had at the conference, as well as share the involvement Atlantic had at MAX.

Max 2008 Keynote

On Monday we had our Flash Lite application Fanbase Mobile shown on stage by Kevin Lynch, the CTO of Adobe, in front of the press and a few throusand of our peers. Below is a video of our contribution to the keynote.

Fanbase Mobile

Beyond the keynote we had Fanbase running on both a Nokia N95 as well as a Blackjack II. It great to see it running on a few devices and get an idea of how it might scale across an entire product line using Flash Lite.

Adobe partner booth pics

On Tuesday, I tended to the Adobe partner booth and answered questions about the Fanbase AIR application for a few hours. It was great to get to talk to consumers and developers about the application and about Adobe’s AIR platform.

Sessions

In addition to the special conference events both Paul Sinclair (SVP of Digital Media) and I gave sessions. Paul was on a panel talking about the Open Screen Project from Adobe, which is an inititative to provide a consistent runtime and user experience across devices.

I also gave my own session on Tuesday “Atlantic Records: Connecting Fans with Bands”. I talked in depth about our new product plan around two key Atlantic artists, showing a full range of new media projects used to promote new releases.

Two award nominations for Atlantic Records

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Two projects to come out of the lab at Atlantic Records this year were nominated for awards. Fanbase Desktop, our multi-artist AIR application was a semifinalist for an Adobe MAX Award. While we didn’t make it to the final 3 in our category, we are hugely honored to be nominated.

Also, the Jason Mraz mobile premier we launched earlier this year was a finalist in the MMA (Mobile Marketing Association) Global Mobile Forum Awards.  We’re were up against Jaguar and Dove, and while it’s always nice to win I think that having our department being nominated for these two awards really shows the strength of our current direction and how far we’ve come in the last year.

Fanbase Print Press

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

Our new AIR application, Fanbase Desktop has been getting some really solid press online for a while now, but I wanted to highlight a few offline mentions that have been popping up lately.

I was interviewed for Billboard Magazine about the app.

Adobe put out a promotional print piece about Rich Internet Applications and we were one of the featured applications.

And right after the application launched I saw the Reuters article displayed in the cab on my way home from the airport. I thought it was hilarious and snapped a picture with my iPhone.
