Yesterday I spoke on a panel at SXSW titled The Future of Online Music Videos with Nick Stahl from Brightcove, Alexander Kisch from VEVO, John Sasso from SONY Music Entertainment, Inc and William Wilson from NARM. We discussed different delivery points for video online, from band’s direct to fan sites to large destinations like YouTube and Vevo, and how the right blend of these options can help build a band’s brand and drive revenue.

Online iPhone Mock-up Tool
Thursday, January 14th, 2010Lukas Mathis has created a really nice iPhone mockup tool in Flash. This web based tool lets you create wireframes for iPhone apps by dragging and dropping simple components onto a phone and sharing the url. You can create final pieces that look like either illustrations or sketches. A nice tool for simple mocks when a napkin just won’t do. Check it out here.

Simple iPhone voicemail backup
Saturday, January 2nd, 2010A great article from Strangely Dim on how to backup voicemail messages from the iPhone simply, with no additional apps, and no Jailbreaking.
1) Backup your phone in iTunes
2) Run a simple Terminal script (copy and paste)
3) Wait a few seconds and all of your voicemails are converted to .amr files. The one trick is giving the script a minute or so to run, I kept running it over and over without waiting for it to terminate on its own. Patience!
The script you need to run is here:
pushd ~/Library/Application\ Support/MobileSync/Backup ; \
for I in `find . -name *.mddata -exec grep -la “#\!AMR” {} +` ; \
do cp $I $OLDPWD/`basename -s mddata $I`amr ; \
done ; \
popd
And make sure to click through to Eric’s original article. Thanks for the hint!
Designing iPhone apps using Adobe Flash CS5 and AIR
Thursday, October 15th, 2009Arguably the biggest announcement from Adobe’s MAX conference last week was the (future) ability to create iPhone applications using Flash CS5. There were several sessions that materialized shortly after the announcement, but this session by Arno Gourdol was by far the most useful and practical. Check out the video below.
Atlantic and Fanbase in Wired and Billboard
Tuesday, October 6th, 2009Today Atlantic Records and Fanbase received amazing mentions in Billboard and Wired Magazines.
Rob Thomas was named one of Billboard’s Top 10 Wireless artists today in an article that highlights his early adoption of the Fanbase platform. They discuss his use of Fanbase Desktop, Fanbase Mobile for Flash Lite, and Fanbase for the iPhone as well as his continued use Twitter to communicate directly with his fans. Calling him “The Trailblazer” underscores both his willingness to embrace new technology, and the forward thinking nature of Atlantic Records.
In an interview with Livia Tortella (GM/EVP of Atlantic) Wired Magazine highlights our use of Cisco’s EOS platform to bring artist specific communities to music fans alongside a small mention of Fanbase.
