All,
2008 has been a busy year and I've noticed I haven't made any posts since January. Shameful.
Earlier this year I finished up a fun Flash site for a company called GTO-Live, an event and sound engineering company that was looking for a site drastically different than the conservative looks of their competitors. Check it out. GTO description | GTO Live
And a few weeks ago I launched a new product for Atlantic Records called Fanbase. It's a desktop application for which I came up with strategy, IA design and project managed it from beginning to end. It was built in conjunction with teams from Adobe and gskinner.com. It's gotten a lot of press and was picked up by Billboard Magazine, washingtonpost.com, reuters.com and dozens of other sites. I also saw the news article on the screen in a cab coming back from the airport. Surreal. Fanbase description | Fanbase Live
I also started a new section on my site I'm tentatively calling the design graveyard. It's a list of sites that no longer exist or were never launched. Basically a set of designs I really like that are no longer with us. I want to build it out a little more but for now it's a simple page with work. Check it out! Design Graveyard
And finally, I'm going to be leading a session at Adobe's Max conference in November. It's their big yearly designer/developer conference and I'll be talking about how Atlantic Records is using design and technology for the betterment of the music industry.
Working on a new site to have up before my session in November so keep checking back periodically for new functionality. I've already started a blog that I plan on building up and working deeper into my site. Stay tuned for more!

Fanbase Launches, gets picked up by Billboard Magazine

Atlantic Records launched Fanbase Monday, a desktop application that has been my pet project for most of '08 working closely with Adobe and Lanny McNie at Gskinner.com. I created the strategy, information architecture and visual design for the multi-band Adobe AIR application. The purpose of Fanbse is two fold; to bring content about an artist from many sources into one application, and for fans to have a place to communicate with other fans about that content. It integates with best of breed partners and services like iMeem, Meebo, Brightcove, YouTube, Flickr, and Yahoo! Pipes to create a content rich music experience. And with runtime switching of skins it allows users to add multiple artists into one application on their desktop. More than just a desktop app, Fanbase is an important part of Atlantics Records overall digital strategy, allowing fans to access their favorite artist's content anywhere. Integrating with our content rich artist websites, social networking widgets, on disc, and mobile experiences it gives fans what they want anytime, anywhere. The app has been receiving amazing press. Fanbase has been mentioned in Billboard magazine, Newyorktimes.com, WashingtonPost.com, ReadWriteWeb, Yahoo! News and tons of other places. This was a project I drove from beginning to end and really believed in so I'm so glad people are responding positively. And most importantly, the fans love it!
Jason Mraz and Kadoink

The Rock Marketing team and I launched a new promotion for Jason Mraz that has been getting some nice pickup in the media. We are doing release via mobile phones where each day for 11 days leading up to the release of Jason's newest album fans can listen to a track for free on their phone. We are using a technology company named Kadoink to make it happen. To see the campaign in action go to Jason's Myspace page and check out the Kadoink Widget. 2008 has been a very busy year. I've updated some paintings and drawings on my site, dove deep into Flash Lite and Actionscript 3.0, and added the GTO Live Site I just finished to my portfolio. I have a few other sites in progress so stay tuned!
A good end to 2007

So I have some interesting updates from the end of 2007 beginning of 2008. I have taken on yet another gig at Atlantic Records. I will be continuing on as the Creative Director of our digital media and eCommerce but am hiring an Art Director to take over a lot of the day to day management and will be taking on a new Product Development role. Basically my new job is to think of new ways to promote and monetize music online. I know that sounds vague, but to put it in context of what I used to do, I'm designing and developing things that aren't websites to help Atlantic make money. I also finished up teaching an Advanced Photoshop class at Parsons School of Design. I think this semester (my second) I really started to get the hang of semester long classes and had a lot of great students making great work in my class. I will be taking off a semester from teaching to really dedicate time to my new job, but will be back as the regular Advanced Photoshop teacher in Fall 2008. Last week, I had an opening in Seattle. I had two paintings in a show called "Seven Propositions". Centers around seven painters around the country and there are images and links on the gallery site at http://www.ouchmyeye.com/events/sevenpropositions/ And finally, I have made some improvements to my website http://www.ericpaulsnowden.com. I have some new pieces up, a few usability improvements and some new info on old pieces. Check it out! 2007 ended in a great way for me and here's to hoping 2008 lives up to expectations! Eric
